AI for library services — ALiT

Supporting librarians through AI-powered practice and reflection.

Motivation

ALiT — AI Platform for Librarian Lifelong Training — is a three-year IMLS-funded collaboration between UNT and Amigos Library Services. It explores flexible professional development for public librarians, using generative AI to support practice, confidence, and reflection while preserving professional judgment. I join the project as a Research Assistant in October 2026.

Approach

The platform simulates complex library-service encounters and provides structured feedback for experiential learning. Its research examines realistic scenario design, changes in librarians’ communication skills and preparedness, knowledge sharing across institutions and generations, and ethical, human-centered AI use.

An initial prototype demonstrates simulated interactions and feedback. The ongoing project will study how on-demand practice and reflection can support workforce development. This extends my interest in data quality toward evaluating whether AI systems are useful and trustworthy in professional practice.
